Casting Call Principal Role in “A Strange Loop”

We are thrilled to support Soulpepper Theatre in their search for the lead role of Usher in their upcoming production of A Strange Loop. This critically acclaimed musical offers a unique and challenging opportunity for talented performers.

Role Details:

  • Character: Usher
  • Description: Black, playing age 20-26, High Tenor (Eb3-D5). Usher is a “young, overweight-to-obese, cisgender queer male full of self-conscious femme energy.” He is highly intelligent, deeply ironic, and intensely self-aware, though plagued by insecurity. Usher is an usher by night and a musical theater writer by day. His humor is warm but laced with irony, and his emotional darkness is expressed through his writing rather than his outward demeanor. This role involves scenes that explore themes of sexual trauma.
