Online Auditions for speaking roles in Apple Studios Feature Film by Academy Award-Winning Director Siân Heder!

Apple Studios is casting for speaking roles in Apple TV+’s movie Radical, an inspiring new feature film directed by Siân Heder, the Academy Award-winning writer/director of CODA.

About the Film:

Radical tells the powerful story of disability rights activist Judy Heumann and the historic 1977 San Francisco sit-in at the Federal Building. Over 100 Disabled activists formed a united community, refusing to leave until the government enforced Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, mandating accessibility in all federal spaces.

Audition Roles:

Seeking individuals with disabilities to authentically portray the 504 protestors. Roles are open to all ages, genders, and ethnicities. Specific disabilities include (but are not limited to):

  • People who use mobility aids such as wheelchairs, crutches, or walkers.
  • Individuals with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, or multiple sclerosis.
  • Those who are blind or low vision.
  • People who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Little people.
  • Individuals who are amputees or have limb differences.
  • Individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

JUDY HEUMANN
Character portrayed as female, white, 20s to 30s, wheelchair user. A natural born leader, she is an inspiring advocate. Brazen, fierce and funny.

KITTY CONE
Character portrayed as female, white, 20s to 30s, wheelchair user. A warm and approachable organizer and collaborator.

ED ROBERTS
Character portrayed as male, white, mid-late 30s to mid 40s, wheelchair user. A community leader and lifelong advocate for Disability rights.

BRAD LOMAX
Character portrayed as male, Black, 20s to 30s, wheelchair user. A Black Panther who thinks outside the box to support his fellow protesters. less…

HALE ZUKAS
Character portrayed as male, white, late 20s to 30s, wheelchair user with a speech Disability who uses a communication device. An audacious and brilliant Disability rights activist with a wicked sense of humor.

CHARLIE
Character portrayed as male, Black, 20s to 30s, blind. Optimistic, kind, a team player.

DON
Character portrayed as male, Black, 20s to 30s, gay, wheelchair or mobility aid user. A respected civil rights activist who understands the more… intersectionality between his Black, religious, queer and disabled communities.

OWEN
Character portrayed as male, any ethnicity, 20s to 30s, Deaf. An activist with a mischievous sense of humor. Fluent in ASL.

GERRY
Character portrayed as any gender, any ethnicity, 20s to 30s, Little Person. Confident and sarcastic, Gerry is a Disability activist who more… isn’t afraid to take charge of a situation.

CELIA
Character portrayed as female, Black, Latina, Indigenous, AAPI, or MENA. 20s to early 30s, wheelchair or mobility aid user. New to the more… world of activism, she finds community during the protests.

YOUTH & Adult PROTESTORS WITH DISABILITIES
Characters portrayed are under 18, any gender or ethnicity, who join in the fight for accessibility.
