Sundog Theatre Auditions: Male Lead Swing for “Ellis Island: Gateway to a Dream”

Sundog Theatre is hosting auditions for its 2025 educational short-tour musical, Ellis Island: Gateway to a Dream, directed by Shannon Agnew and produced by Susan Fenley. This inspiring one-hour musical captures the hopeful journey of immigrants seeking a better life in America.

The team is seeking a male lead swing (20s–30s, any ethnicity) to cover three character tracks. Ideal candidates are bari-tenor singer/actors who can bring versatility and heart to this meaningful production.

Details:

  • Compensation: $1,000 base, additional pay for performed shows.
  • Commitment: Attend all rehearsals and be on call for all performances.
  • Performances: Tours in NY, NJ, MD, and CT (travel/accommodations provided).
  • Non-union position.

Ellis Island: Gateway To A Dream – MALE LEAD SWING NEEDED

Male swing will need to learn three male character tracks for this one-hour musical tour about immigrants who came to America for a better life. (Performances in NY, NJ, MD, and CT—all out of NYC travel/accommodations provided.)

Music rehearsals on Staten Island Feb 17 & 19. Staging rehearsals on Staten Island Feb 25-28.
Swings will need to be at all rehearsals and on call from Mar 3-28 for mostly weekday, daytime shows.

Swing Character Breakdown:

  • Narrator: male, actor who sings, any ethnic character type, baritone
  • Nathan: male, strong actor/singer, Russian dialect, baritone
  • Hjordis: male, Finnish dialect, energetic baritenor or tenor
