Peacock Greenlights New Crime Thriller Series M.I.A., Set in South Florida
Peacock has officially ordered a straight-to-series production for M.I.A., a gripping, female-led crime thriller created by Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque. The series, which is now moving into production in South Florida, promises to deliver a raw and intense look at Miami’s criminal underworld.
Set against the backdrop of Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties, M.I.A. follows the harrowing journey of Etta “Tiger” Jonze, a woman deeply entrenched in her family’s drug-running operation. However, when her entire family is brutally murdered before her eyes, Etta’s life takes a drastic turn. Driven by grief and a thirst for vengeance, she sets out to dismantle those responsible for her family’s death — while simultaneously building a powerful new chosen family of her own. As her influence grows, Etta transforms from a powerless orphan to Miami’s most feared and formidable criminal Queenpin.

The title M.I.A. is not only a nod to Miami’s airport code but also symbolizes Etta’s own descent into the underworld as she becomes “missing in action” from her former life, ultimately immersing herself in the criminal underbelly of South Florida.
The series joins a growing trend of television dramas exploring Miami’s dark and dangerous side. Recent crime dramas set in South Florida include Hotel Cocaine (MGM+), the Netflix hit Griselda starring Sofia Vergara, and Narcos, which chronicled the rise of Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel. Additionally, Showtime’s Dexter, which became a cultural phenomenon, was also famously set in Miami.
With Dubuque at the helm, known for his mastery of intense, high-stakes storytelling in Ozark, M.I.A. is expected to deliver a complex and adrenaline-fueled narrative that captures the raw grit of Miami’s criminal underworld while showcasing a compelling female lead navigating vengeance, power, and survival.
Production is already underway in South Florida, and fans of crime thrillers can anticipate a thrilling, action-packed ride when M.I.A. makes its debut exclusively on Peacock.
