Open Auditions for the Yadkin Arts Council’s Spring 2025 Production of Doublewide, Texas
The Yadkin Arts Council invites local actors to audition for the hilarious comedy Doublewide, Texas. Auditions will take place on Sunday, February 2, 2025, and Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Willingham Performing Arts Academy (221 E. Main St., Yadkinville, NC 27055).
Who Can Audition:
Auditions are open to adults and high school actors aged 16 and up.
Audition Details:
Actors will be asked to cold-read sides from the Doublewide, Texas script. While a 1-minute prepared monologue is welcome, it is not required.
Rehearsals and Performances:
Rehearsals begin the week of February 10, 2025, and performances will run from April 10-13, 2025.
About the Show:
Doublewide, Texas is a fast-paced comedy set in one of the smallest trailer parks in Texas, where residents of four doublewides and a shed must band together to fight a proposed annexation by the nearby town of Tagalog. The colorful characters navigate forbidden romances, surprising betrayals, and laugh-out-loud chaos as they work to protect their way of life in this side-splitting Jones Hope Wooten production.
Character Descriptions:
- Big Ethel Satterwhite (Female, 60s): Tough and down-to-earth, Big Ethel struggles to balance her job at the retirement village with her exasperation toward her stubborn husband.
- Georgia Dean Rudd (Female, 40s): A fiery, good-hearted diner owner with a knack for adopting stray animals, even when she can’t afford to.
- Lark Barken (Female, 20s): A quirky, heavily pregnant woman from Oregon, whose eccentric ways confuse but endear her to the group.
- Norwayne “Baby” Crumpler (Male, 40s): A good ol’ boy who may be taking his beauty pageant role a bit too seriously.
- Haywood Sloggett (Male, 70s): The grumpy neighbor across the road who despises the residents’ “trailer-trash” lifestyle.
- Joveeta Crumpler (Female, 40s): A driven woman juggling career struggles and the antics of her unpredictable mother.
- Caprice Crumpler (Female, mid-to-late 70s): Outlandish and lively, she’s here to have fun, drink beer, and steal the spotlight.
- Lomax Tanner (Male, 40s): Charismatic and helpful… or so he seems.
- Starla Pudney (Female, 40s): The high-maintenance wife of the mayor, brimming with ambition and influence.
