UpStage Artists Announces Auditions for Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner
UpStage Artists is thrilled to hold auditions for our second production of 2025, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, a timeless and thought-provoking classic.
Audition Details:
- Dates: February 25 & February 27
- Time: 7:00 PM

What to Prepare:
- A short, 1-minute monologue of your choice.
- Memorization is not required, but please be familiar enough with it to limit reliance on the script.
- Cold readings from the script will also be included.

Roles Available:
All roles are open. The cast includes characters of diverse ages and backgrounds:
- Matilda (Tillie) Binks (African-American Female, Late 40s–50s): The Draytons’ domestic for 27 years, known for her humor and wisdom.
- Hilary St. George (White Female, 40s–Early 50s): Associate Director of the Drayton Gallery. Supportive in appearance, but not always sincere.
- Christina Drayton (White Female, Late 50s–Early 60s): Joanna’s mother and the successful owner of the Drayton Gallery. Initially surprised by her daughter’s fiancé but ultimately supportive.
- Matt Drayton (White Male, 60s): Joanna’s father and publisher of a San Francisco newspaper. A self-proclaimed progressive who struggles with his daughter’s decision.
- Joanna Drayton (White Female, 20s): A determined young woman seeking her parents’ blessing for her marriage but willing to move forward regardless.
- Dr. John Prentice (African-American Male, Mid–Late 30s): A highly accomplished doctor asking for Joanna’s parents’ approval. A passionate man shaped by past tragedy.
- Monsignor Ryan (White Male, Late 50s–Early 70s): A close family friend and golfing partner of Matt Drayton.
- John Prentice Sr. (African-American Male, 60s): Dr. Prentice’s father, a school teacher grappling with his son’s decision.
- Mary Prentice (African-American Female, Late 50s–Early 60s): Dr. Prentice’s mother, a department store clerk who empathizes with her son’s love for Joanna.
Rehearsal Schedule:
- Rehearsals begin Monday, March 3, 2025, and will be held on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Tech Rehearsals and Show Dates:
- Mandatory Tech Rehearsals: April 21–24, 2025.
- Performances:
- April 25, 26, May 2 at 7:30 PM
- April 27, May 3, 4 at 2:00 PM
