Stage West Playhouse along with director Keith Surplus are thrilled to announce auditions for Carrie, The Musical.
THESE ROLES ARE UNPAID.
Auditions will be held on the Main Stage at the Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Drive, Spring Hill, Florida on Sunday February 2nd at 1:00 pm and Monday February 3rd at 7:00 pm by Stage West Playhouse.
Our auditions will be vocal, then choreography and finally cold reads.
For choreography, please bring a water bottle, jazz shoes or closed toe shoes/sneakers and wear comfortable clothing.
For vocal auditions, prepare a minute of a song in the style of the show. Broadway/Pop Rock. The song should represent the auditioner’s vocal range. Those auditioning for Carrie White and Margaret White should prepare a song that shows off their belt. Both characters have songs that range from soft to powerful.
The Musical:
Carrie White is a teenage outcast who longs to fit in. At school, she’s bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she’s dominated by her loving but cruelly controlling mother. What none of them know is that Carrie’s just discovered she’s got a special power, and if pushed too far, she’s not afraid to use it.
Cast includes 8 Female characters, 7 male characters. 3-4 females can be added and 3-4 males can be added, each representing students. For Carrie and all the students the age range for the actors can be 16 to early 20s (whom can look like teenagers). Margaret White- 40s to early 60s. Miss Gardener and Mr. Stephens 30s to early 40s

Available Roles for Carrie: The Musical
Carrie White (Vocal Range: G3-E3): A shy, outcast teenager who is relentlessly bullied by her peers and controlled by her deeply religious mother. Carrie discovers her telekinetic powers, which she unleashes when pushed to her limit.
Margaret White (Vocal Range: G3-G5): Carrie’s overbearing mother, deeply driven by her extreme religious convictions. She is torn between her spirituality, fervent beliefs, and her maternal instincts. A woman of intense emotional extremes.
Sue Snell (Vocal Range: A3-E5): A popular girl with a conscience. After participating in a cruel bullying incident, Sue feels genuine remorse and seeks redemption by trying to make amends.
Tommy Ross (Vocal Range: A2-C5): A star athlete with a sensitive side. He is Sue’s boyfriend, balancing his “jock” persona with a budding interest in poetry and a genuine kindness toward others.
Chris Hargensen (Vocal Range: E3-E5): The wealthy, spoiled queen bee of the school. She thrives on power and control, often defying rules with a sense of entitlement. Her anger issues fuel her role as a ruthless bully.
Billy Nolan (Vocal Range: A2-C5): Chris’s reckless, rebellious boyfriend. A “bad boy” with charisma and cunning, easily manipulated by Chris to carry out her devious plans.
Miss Lynn Gardener (Vocal Range: E3-C#5): The girls’ P.E. teacher. Though a strict disciplinarian, she has a compassionate, maternal side and genuinely wants to protect Carrie.
Mr. Stephens (Vocal Range: A2-G4): The school’s English teacher and guidance counselor. Though well-meaning and empathetic, he struggles with being overworked and underappreciated.
Reverend Bliss (Vocal Range: C3-G4): A local preacher who delivers sermons on WORD radio. This role can be played by the same actor as Mr. Stephens.
Norma (Vocal Range: E3-E5): A gossipy “mean girl” with tomboyish tendencies. Norma is Chris’s loyal sidekick and frequently panders to authority figures.
Frieda (Vocal Range: E3-G5): Sue’s intelligent, thoughtful friend. Frieda is a follower who often volunteers for extracurricular activities and committee work.
Helen (Vocal Range: E3-G5): A giggly, slightly awkward girl who craves acceptance. Her eagerness to belong makes her prone to herd mentality.
George (Vocal Range: A2-C5): Tommy’s loyal friend and Frieda’s boyfriend. He idolizes Tommy and often looks up to him, perhaps a bit too much.
Stokes (Vocal Range: A2-C5): A nerdy but likable student who is thrilled to be included in Tommy’s social circle.
Freddy (Vocal Range: A2-C5): A slick, wisecracking student with a childish streak. Freddy tends to follow the lead of more dominant personalities like Billy and Chris.
Ensemble – Chamberlain Students:
- 3-4 Girls (Vocal ranges similar to named characters): These roles will encompass a variety of personalities, styles, and cliques, adding depth to the Chamberlain student body. Two girls may portray sisters.
- 3-4 Boys (Vocal ranges similar to named male characters): These roles will represent different school cliques and personalities, further fleshing out the world Stephen King created in his original novel.
All roles are integral to bringing the intense, dramatic, and suspenseful story of Carrie to life on stage!
